RealRyder cycling is different. Our indoor cycling program is different. Our bike is different. No other indoor bike has our “Ryde”! RealRyder Cycling adds a level of excitement through innovation that can energize any existing cycling program. There are unlimited programming options for offering a unique riding experience that will be enjoyed by people of all fitness levels, interests and backgrounds.

One of the questions we often receive is from our teachers and studio owners is “How do I find or make the elevation maps for class?”. We enlisted a few of our instructors to answer this question. After putting our heads together we came up with three great sources for inspiration.

Ryde it Real Tool #3: Use Your Favorites Races!

The major races, like the Tour de France, offer comprehensive imagery and profiles for each stage of the race. CYKL, a RealRyder studio in Canada, simulated the entire Tour de France last year, complete with leaderboards, jerseys, footage of the race, and of course celebratory champagne! Use the tools found on race websites to excite your class participants and offer them an experience they will never forget. Some of our favorites to get you started are the Tour de France, USA Cycling, and here in RealRyder country we have SoCal Cycling.

Tell us about your inspirations for riding indoors! A parting shot from CYKL in Canada, to get your creative juices flowing!

Ryde it real. Teach it real. It’s time to take the training wheels off!

RealRyder Indoor Cycling Classes will help you improve your spin or pedaling efficiency!

You have heard how the RealRyder stationary bike, gives you a better all round workout than traditional spin bikes or stationary bikes due to its articulating frame. The movement and ability to lean and turn means that you are engaging your core muscles and upper body more than you would on a rigid spinning bike or stationary bike. This is something first timers notice right away when they take a RealRyder Indoor Cycling Class. By recruiting these additional muscle groups you are also burning approximately 20% more calories in one of our indoor cycling classes, good to know if you have limited time to work out or if you are trying to lose weight.

There is another benefit, which is much less obvious, but very useful to anyone who rides a real bike! Pedaling efficiency is something that normally develops after many miles or hours in the saddle and is very evident in the best professional racers who look smooth and effortless even at the end of a long hard race. The French have a great word for this; they call it “souplesse”. Which literally translates as suppleness, but in the cycling context it means more than this and describes a smooth, efficient pedaling style. Don’t confuse this with taking it easy, you can still be going hard, but the point is you are not wasting energy and all your effort is going into spinning the pedals!

How does RealRyder indoor cycling help with efficiency? Put simply, when you pedal more smoothly on our stationary bike it will move much less! Our bike rewards souplesse or smooth circular pedaling and a stable core. Conversly if you mash the pedals or have a choppy, jerky action the bike will rock from side to side much more. This actually helps you focus on balance, coordination and spinning smoothly.

Your pedaling efficiency will improve and you will also develop stronger core muscles, which will help you stablise your core and keep a quiet upper body, even when pushing the pace! All this translates into less wasted energy, which means when you ride on the road you can save your energy for when you really need it or you will finish your longer rides in better shape!

Indoor cycling or spin classes on traditional spinning bikes won’t help you with this, as these rigid spinning bikes don’t move anyway! It is only on the tilting RealRyder stationary bike that the movement will help you indentify when you are pedaling more efficiently. So not only will RealRyder Indoor Cycling Classes help you develop your all round fitness, they will also help you develop your technique and become a better bike rider!

ABOUT SHAPE UP AMERICA:
Michael Torchia, founder of Operation Fitness, will be hosting his Shape Up America Campaign with a free Health and Fitness Expo at Central Park in New York City on Saturday, June 19th, 2010, in conjunction with the Adventures NYC event which attracts over 25,000 health and sports enthusiasts each year.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has submitted a resolution to make the week of June 21st, 2010 “Health and Fitness Week” in the City of New York. Mayor Bloomberg will receive the Health Advocate Achievement Award from Shape Up America founder Michael Torchia for his advocacy of health and fitness issues and for being such a powerful and positive role model to the citizens of New York City.

The Shape Up America Campaign was created to help adults, children and pets get healthy for their own benefit and for the lasting benefits that will strengthen the entire nation for generations to come. The campaign targets all segments of our communities, including schools, city government, civic organizations, community groups, businesses, and other people who live, work and play in America. The goal is to show people how they can create fun, simple ways of working out, along with participating in stimulating activities at home, at the office, in a park or even in the wilderness. We have selected the 30 most populated cities in the United States to visit and create our “Health Villages”. One of our goals is to connect resources in every city and set up a network of health practitioners to continue on our work.

Health organizations that have already joined forces for the Shape Up America 30-City Tour include: The After-School All-Stars, Boys and Girls Club of America, American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, National Fibromyalgia Association, Liver Foundation, American Red Cross, National MS Society, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and American Liver Foundation.

So come and check out the Health and Fitness Expo and see our stationary bike in Central Park!
