Happy Memorial Day everyone! Have a great day with family and friends!
Let’s not forget Memorial Day is not just the official start of Summer, it’s the one day every year where we pay respect and thank those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Those fallen heroes, who gave up their lives to keep us safe and free.
The world is a dangerous place these days, so to all those who serve and their families we thank you and have a Happy Memorial Day, wherever you are!

We recently wrote about childhood obesity and how it has become a problem for one in three American Children. We also brought you the great stories of Elise Marmon who lost over 50lbs working out on a RealRyder stationary bike and how Multisport Fitness in PA were running Indoor Cycling Classes for kids!
The Shape Up America Campaign is a great initiative to show people fun ways to get fit and healthy and will be coming to Central Park on June 19th. RealRyder actively supports all initiatives to help improve the health and fitness of our youngsters and is proud to announce that we are planning to attend this event and bringing our unique stationary bike a proven tool for getting fit and losing weight.
Look out for more information on this and in the meantime here is more on Shape Up America.
ABOUT SHAPE UP AMERICA:
Michael Torchia, founder of Operation Fitness, will be hosting his Shape Up America Campaign with a free Health and Fitness Expo at Central Park in New York City on Saturday, June 19th, 2010, in conjunction with the Adventures NYC event which attracts over 25,000 health and sports enthusiasts each year.New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has submitted a resolution to make the week of June 21st, 2010 “Health and Fitness Week” in the City of New York. Mayor Bloomberg will receive the Health Advocate Achievement Award from Shape Up America founder Michael Torchia for his advocacy of health and fitness issues and for being such a powerful and positive role model to the citizens of New York City.
The Shape Up America Campaign was created to help adults, children and pets get healthy for their own benefit and for the lasting benefits that will strengthen the entire nation for generations to come. The campaign targets all segments of our communities, including schools, city government, civic organizations, community groups, businesses, and other people who live, work and play in America. The goal is to show people how they can create fun, simple ways of working out, along with participating in stimulating activities at home, at the office, in a park or even in the wilderness. We have selected the 30 most populated cities in the United States to visit and create our “Health Villages”. One of our goals is to connect resources in every city and set up a network of health practitioners to continue on our work.
Health organizations that have already joined forces for the Shape Up America 30-City Tour include: The After-School All-Stars, Boys and Girls Club of America, American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, National Fibromyalgia Association, Liver Foundation, American Red Cross, National MS Society, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and American Liver Foundation.
So come and check out the Health and Fitness Expo and see our stationary bike in Central Park!
We are always looking for feedback on our unique moving stationary bike and as you know we had a fantastic response at the recent SCW show Florida MANIA. We ran our Indoor Cycling Classes at SCW, aimed at instructors and studio owners, to show them how to get the best out of our stationary bike and take their indoor cycling classes to the next level!
We had one very special guest at these classes and we are delighted to be able to bring you Leslee Bender’s initial thoughts on our stationary bike. Leslee really needs no introduction, but for those who don’t know, she has been in the fitness industry for over 25 years. She trains top fitness instructors around the world to become better fitness instructors and has certified over 1500 trainers internationally (full Bio below). With her background in Pilates and core training Leslee is very well qualified to assess the full body workout of the RealRyder, so over to Leslee to hear what she thought!
I am Leslee Bender Creator of the Bender Method of training. I too am an international presenter and at one time was a master trainer for Tomahawk indoor cycling. I am a competitive water skier and avid snow skier and runner.
I recently attended the RealRyder Indoor Cycling Class with Douglas Brooks and I have to say this was the BEST experience I have ever had on an indoor bike.
It can be transferred to all other activities that require weight transfer and core control. While other bikes are good it is simply not the same!!! I felt how I had to balance and be cognizant of how I pedaled and with which muscle groups.
I think personally this is the wave of the future for indoor cycling and, they certainly have my vote!!!
So many thanks to Leslee for sharing her thoughts on the RealRyder stationary bike, what a great testimonial! It is very reassuring to us that experienced fitness industry professionals like Leslee recognize the benefits of our unique design. We think we have revolutionized indoor cycling and to quote Leslee “this is the wave of the future for indoor cycling”!
Bio: Leslee is the original creator of the Bender Ball™ and Bender Method™. She has presented at all of the main fitness conferences throughout the world; including IDEA, IHRSA Club Industry, Sara City, ECA, AFPA, AAAI and hundreds more. Hundreds of clubs have utilized her form of Pilates training where she has integrated her unique Selective Stabilization™ methods to take Pilates training to a whole new level. Leslee is currently nominated for New Mind Body Programming of the Year for ECA New York.
Philosophy: “My philosophy is that everybody can do the Bender Method of training from Core Training to Pilates. My instructional techniques are based on real results. I have worked with the best of the best exercise physiologists and practitioners in the medical field to design specific exercises for strength and then I personally train individuals to assure my techniques deliver results for people just like you. I believe one MUST learn to activate their core before ever moving forward into any kind of exercise program. With my Bender Method of Core Training, you’ll finally feel your entire abs, possibly for the first time, including your side obliques, upper abs and those really hard to train deep lower abs.”
— Leslee Bender, Bender Ball™ Creator.

This blog post will be the first entry in a series dedicated to RealRyder’s home customers. As you know we are always looking for feedback on what our customers think of our stationary bike. We would like to give you the reader a little more info as to who our customers are, what their backgrounds are, and what their experiences have been indoor cycling with the RealRyder stationary bike. So without further introduction here is Erik Schoen from Nevada’s story.
Erik Schoen on his RealRyder Stationary Bike
1.) How long have you owned the RealRyder? For about two months.
2.) How did you hear about our stationary bike? From a local home gym store but the video on the website sold us!
3.) Do you have a background in cycling, indoor cycling, fitness, group exercise, athletics, etc…? Both my wife and I are avid recreational cyclists (both mountain and road) and engage in a variety of other athletic pursuits including primarily rock climbing and skiing.
4.) Have you experienced any substantial weight loss or improved conditioning in your time with our stationary bike? Here is the kicker: After just two months of riding the RealRyder just twice a week, on the first outdoor ride this Spring I bested my best time for a favorite out-and-back and still had gas in the tank — and I wasn’t in bad shape last year (at least I didn’t think so)! I think the reasons for this are because of the RealRyders natural feel and its engagement of the core muscles.
5.) What can you tell us about your household’s typical schedule with the RealRyder? How many days per week do you ride, how long are the sessions, are there other people in the household regularly using the RealRyder, etc…? With our multiple athletic pursuits, my wife and I have been riding the RealRyder approximately twice a week, almost exclusively doing intervals training. My wife rides for about 30 minutes; I ride for about an hour.
6.) Is there anything you like to do while you ride? For example music playlists you listen to, videos you watch, T.V. shows etc…? With intervals training, I do best without distractions of any other kind including music, TV, or reading — I’ve got to focus on holding myself honest to the level of effort I need to give and that is easiest if I can concentrate. My wife, on the other hand, enjoys watching TV.
7.) Have you experienced any benefits from our bike that have carried over into other aspects of your life, activities, sports, relationships, etc…? In addition to those previously mentioned, other things we like about having the RealRyder include (1) we are saving money by being able to discontinue a gym membership, (2) we are saving time by having the bike immediately and easily accessible, (3) we are “riding” more frequently because the weather is no longer a reason not to ride, (4) it doesn’t take up much room in our house, and (5) it looks great!
8.) Any other comments you would like to make about the RealRyder?
Just that I LOVE the RealRyder! We like how natural it feels and how much it engages our core muscles when we ride. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for putting together such a great product. We have absolutely NO regrets for making the purchase.
There you have it, a very happy customer! Remember, although our stationary bike is commercial grade fitness equipment, built to stand the heavy use it will get in indoor cycling classes, we have a lot of home customers like Erik who have recognized the benefit of having their own RealRyder stationary bike. You can always get a great workout, regardless of time or weather!
